Autism Class Teacher

About the role

The Kilkenny and Carlow Education and Training Board is seeking a dedicated Autism Class Teacher to join a fixed‑term cover for a career break. You will work 22 hours per week, delivering specialised instruction to an autism class (17 hrs) and supporting team‑teaching activities (5 hrs).

Key responsibilities

• Plan, deliver and assess curriculum tailored to the needs of autistic learners.
• Collaborate with fellow teachers to integrate cross‑curricular links such as literacy and numeracy.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and adapt teaching strategies accordingly.
• Participate in professional development and contribute to the school’s inclusive culture.

Required profile

• Current registration with the Teaching Council of Ireland (essential).
• Post‑graduate qualification in Special Education Needs or Learning Support is an advantage.
• Demonstrated competence in professional knowledge, practice, communication and self‑management.
• Ability to describe relevant achievements in up to 300 words per competency.

Required skills

• Knowledge of special education pedagogy and autism spectrum disorders.
• Familiarity with Irish curriculum specifications and assessment frameworks.
