Behavioural Data Science Consultant – 11‑month Remote Role

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a Behavioural Data Science Consultant to support a project that tests community‑generated peer‑to‑peer messaging to increase HPV vaccination uptake among adolescents in Uganda and Kenya. The 11‑month assignment is remote, based in the Nairobi Centre of Excellence, and will combine data science, behavioural research and health communication.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement end‑to‑end data pipelines for large‑scale text data (over 11,000 responses).
• Develop and validate Natural Language Processing (NLP) models for thematic clustering and message refinement.
• Apply AI‑powered techniques to forecast crowd‑sourced messaging impact.
• Support the design and analysis of cluster‑randomised controlled trials (cRCTs) evaluating message effectiveness.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate community‑generated content into experimental workflows.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in data science, computer science, statistics or a related field.
• Proven experience with large‑scale text processing and NLP model development.
• Familiarity with experimental analytics and health‑communication research.
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting and coordinate with international partners.
