Breast Surgeon

About the role

St. Francis Community Hospital is recruiting a Breast Surgeon for its Surgery Department, reporting to the Head of Department. The role provides expert surgical care for patients with benign and malignant breast conditions and plays a key part in multidisciplinary breast care, contributing to clinical excellence, patient-centered care, education and research.

Key responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic evaluations and surgical procedures such as lumpectomies, mastectomies, breast biopsies and reconstructive collaboration
• Work with radiologists, oncologists, pathologists and plastic surgeons in the multidisciplinary breast cancer team
• Take part in weekly tumor boards and case reviews
• Provide counseling, pre-operative and post-operative care
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and patient records
• Help develop and update clinical guidelines and best practices in breast surgery
• Mentor and train junior doctors, interns and nursing staff
• Take part in quality improvement, clinical audits and research
• Promote breast health awareness, early detection and screening through outreach and education

Required profile

• Master's degree in General Surgery (MMed Surgery or equivalent)
• Subspecialty training or fellowship in Breast Surgery or Surgical Oncology strongly preferred
• Registration and licensure with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC)
• At least 5 years of post-graduate surgical experience, including a minimum of 2 years in dedicated breast surgery
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
