Chief Investment Officer

About the role

Nubia Group, an ESG-focused emerging-markets growth equity firm, is hiring a full-time, on-site Chief Investment Officer (CIO) based in Nairobi County, Kenya. The CIO leads the firm's overall investment strategy and portfolio construction across emerging markets, combining financial rigor with ESG impact.

Key responsibilities

• Lead investment strategy and portfolio construction, overseeing sourcing, evaluation and execution of growth equity investments.
• Manage the pipeline, including deal sourcing, due diligence, financial modeling, ESG impact assessment and investment committee presentations.
• Guide portfolio management, working with portfolio companies on value creation plans, ESG integration, risk management and performance monitoring.
• Manage and mentor the investment team, set analytical and ethical standards, and work with the advisory practice to align investment and ESG-readiness support.
• Contribute to fundraising, limited partner relations, market positioning and thought leadership on sustainable and impact investing in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Required profile

• Strong expertise in investment strategies, including growth equity, ESG-integrated investing and impact-focused capital allocation.
• Demonstrated experience in investment and portfolio management, with a track record of leading transactions and overseeing portfolio performance.
• Advanced knowledge of finance and investments, including financial analysis, valuation, capital structuring and risk management in emerging markets.
• Experience integrating ESG factors into investment decisions, including familiarity with UN SDGs, IFC Performance Standards, GHG Protocol and ISSB/IFRS disclosure frameworks.
• Proven leadership and team management skills, able to mentor diverse professionals and foster a collaborative, high-performance culture.
