Civil & Structural Engineering Intern – Field Operations

About the role

Synnefa is looking for a recent civil engineering graduate to join its hardware team on a six‑month internship. You will work on the civil works that underpin Smart Solar Dryers, greenhouses and drying beds, ensuring that each installation is robust and performs well for African farmers.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain engineering drawings for standard product ranges under version control.
• Develop civil site‑preparation packages including foundation slabs, drainage, anchor bolt layouts, access roads and loading aprons.
• Detail frames, drying beds, racks and tensile structures; produce reinforcement detailing and bar‑bending schedules.
• Carry out site setting‑out, level checks and foundation inspections.
• Assess ground conditions and coordinate geotechnical inputs where required.
• Generate accurate quantity take‑offs and bills of quantities from approved designs.
• Prepare clear technical packages for fabrication and construction partners.
• Inspect sites against quality‑control checklists, record and close out defects, and verify delivered materials.
• Produce as‑built documentation and weekly site reports.

Required profile

• Recent graduate in civil engineering (or related field).
• Willingness to work on‑site in locations such as Kericho, Nyandarua, Makueni and Kisumu.
• Ability to follow supervision and review processes for design decisions.
