Communication Support Internship

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Communication Support Intern to assist its Communication Division in Nairobi. The role supports key UNEP initiatives such as World Environment Day, Champions of the Earth, and the UN Environment Assembly.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in creating communication materials, including meeting notes, email drafts, background papers, social media content, and digital analyses.
• Support coordination within the Communication Division and with other departments, handling information sharing, follow‑up, and action tracking.
• Maintain partner databases, respond to inquiries, schedule meetings, and conduct research for World Environment Day and related programmes.
• Help organise internal and external events, preparing agendas, scheduling, and documenting outcomes.
• Provide administrative, project‑management, and information‑management support as needed.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or completed the final year of a bachelor’s degree, or a graduate programme (master’s or Ph.D.) in communication, international affairs, environment‑related fields, or similar.
• Fluency in written and spoken English; knowledge of French or another UN language is an advantage.
• Proficiency with standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
