Counselling Psychologist

About the role

The United Nations Office at Nairobi seeks a qualified Counselling Psychologist to join the Joint Medical Services team. You will provide professional mental‑health support to UN staff and partners, both on‑site and virtually, contributing to a resilient and healthy workplace.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver individual and group psychological counselling in person and via virtual platforms.
• Provide psychosocial support, including hospital visits, crisis intervention, and Psychological First Aid.
• Conduct psychological assessments, referrals, and follow‑up care.
• Offer grief, bereavement, and substance‑misuse counselling as part of the Employee Assistance Programme.
• Facilitate mission‑readiness training, post‑mission debriefs, and pre‑retirement counselling.
• Develop and deliver psycho‑education and mental‑health awareness workshops.
• Support HIV/AIDS counselling and post‑pandemic recovery initiatives.
• Participate in workplace crisis management and multidisciplinary JMS activities.

Required profile

• Minimum three (3) years of professional experience in clinical or counselling psychology.
• Master’s degree in Clinical or Counselling Psychology.
• Fluent English; working knowledge of French is desirable.
• Clinical practice experience after completing the Master’s degree.
• Training in trauma, substance‑abuse, or stress‑management interventions.
• Experience working in international, multicultural environments.
• Proven ability to provide both virtual and face‑to‑face psychosocial support.
