Customs Declaration Officer (M/F)

About the role

AGL (Africa Global Logistics), a multimodal logistics operator (port, logistics, maritime and rail) now part of the MSC Group, is hiring a Customs Declaration Officer in Mombasa, Kenya. The role ensures accurate, compliant and timely preparation and submission of customs declarations for import and export consignments, while safeguarding regulatory compliance and supporting cargo movement.

Key responsibilities

• Advise the bond department on Bonded Import Form (BIF) estimates on receipt of customs clearance documents.
• Prepare and lodge customs declarations within the 24-hour KPI, correctly classifying goods under the Harmonized System and General Interpretative Rules (GIR).
• Maintain records of declarations, pending cases and their resolutions, and submit processed entries and documents to accounting.
• Advise clients on mandatory documentation, import/export requirements, permits and exemptions, and monitor changes in customs regulations.
• Settle customs disputes and queries, and resolve issues raised by shipping lines, customs authorities or internal processes.
• Lodge T1s in ASYCUDA and validate them through the URA Touch Point portal.
• Requisition Exit Notes from URA and follow up on C2s with customs for clearance at port or CFS.
• Handle duty, permit and exemption applications for South Sudan shipments through the South Sudan customs portal.

Required profile

• Diploma in Clearing & Forwarding.
• Certification from the Kenya School of Revenue Administration (KESRA) in Customs, Clearing & Forwarding Procedures.
• East African Customs & Freight Forwarding Practicing Certificate (EACFFPC).
