Data Engineer – Business Intelligence Platform

About the role

Moringa School is building a stronger Business Intelligence function and needs a Data Engineer to design, build and scale the data infrastructure that powers decision‑making across the organisation. The role is full‑time, hands‑on, and will own the end‑to‑end pipeline from raw source data to interactive dashboards used by non‑technical stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain data pipelines and ETL/ELT workflows that move data from admissions, finance, operations, Salesforce and other internal tools into the BI platform.
• Automate ingestion, transformation and loading processes, implement data validation and monitoring, and troubleshoot production issues.
• Develop and maintain the internal BI platform using Python web frameworks (Django/Flask) and Plotly Dash for interactive visualisations.
• Create intuitive, performant dashboards that enable self‑service reporting for business users.
• Build and document data models (star/snowflake schemas) and ensure query performance as data volumes grow.
• Collaborate with the BI Analyst and department heads to translate business questions into scalable data products.
• Champion data quality, governance and security practices, and stay current with emerging data engineering tools.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Data/Software Engineering, Statistics or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 6+ years of professional experience in data engineering, analytics engineering or a closely related role.
• Proven experience building production‑grade Python applications and web services.
• Strong SQL skills and experience designing relational database schemas and optimizing queries.
