Data Governance & Compliance Manager

About the role

Oxford Data Plan is seeking a Data Governance & Compliance Manager to create and lead its enterprise‑wide data governance function. This strategic position sits within Legal & Compliance and is responsible for ensuring that the data underpinning the company’s alternative data products is governed, legitimate, and compliant with all relevant regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and continuously improve an enterprise Data Governance Framework.
• Ensure data provenance, legitimacy, and regulatory compliance, including UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
• Collaborate with Legal, Product, Partnerships, Commercial, Engineering, and IT teams to embed governance across the organization.
• Conduct vendor due diligence, manage data licensing agreements, and oversee information governance processes.
• Identify and mitigate data‑related risks, protect intellectual property, and support commercial contract negotiations.

Required profile

• Proven experience in enterprise data governance and privacy programmes.
• Strong knowledge of UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, and broader regulatory compliance.
• Commercial judgement and ability to work collaboratively with both legal and technical stakeholders.
• Background in sectors such as alternative data, financial services, investment research, market data, technology, SaaS, or data platforms is a plus.
