Data Product Owner (12-Month Contract)

About the role

Tiko Tiko, a high-growth African nonprofit improving healthcare access for adolescent girls, is looking for a pragmatic, outcome-driven Data Product Owner on a 12-month fixed-term contract. The role owns the end-to-end lifecycle of data deliverables, from scoping requirements and prioritizing backlogs to driving user adoption, and bridges non-technical business units with the Data Engineering, Analytics and Architecture squads. Candidates must be based in Portugal, Kenya or South Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Define, maintain and execute the 12-month data product roadmap, aligning feature delivery across data pipelines, semantic layers and BI tools with Tiko's strategic priorities.
• Translate cross-functional requirements into user stories, technical acceptance criteria and data contracts, and manage sprint refinement and delivery pacing.
• Act as the main liaison between business stakeholders and technical data squads, driving tool adoption, enforcing metric consistency and ensuring data products solve real user needs.

Required profile

• 4+ years of experience as a Product Owner or Product Manager focused on data products, analytics or data infrastructure.
• Proven experience leading backlog grooming, sprint planning and user story definition for technical or data-centric squads.
• Ability to turn business requirements into technical specs and explain technical constraints to executives.
• Fully available for a dedicated 12-month fixed-term engagement and fluent written and spoken English.

Required skills

• Practical understanding of modern data stack concepts, including SQL, data pipelines, dbt semantic layers and BI platforms such as Tableau and Lightdash.

What we offer

• Gross monthly salary of Ksh354,096 - Ksh480,000 (x12) in Kenya, R72,734 - R96,979 (x12) in South Africa, or €3,025 - €4,030 (x14) in Portugal, depending on experience.
