Database Administrator

About the role

The Central Bank of Kenya is seeking an experienced Database Administrator to manage, optimise and secure its critical data platforms. You will work closely with architects and developers to ensure high‑availability, performance and compliance of Oracle, MS SQL and open‑source databases.

Key responsibilities

• Identify database requirements, design physical structures, and define security, backup and recovery specifications.
• Install, upgrade and maintain database systems, including Oracle RAC, Dataguard and engineered systems such as Exadata.
• Monitor and tune database performance, implement patches, and manage backup/restore processes using RMAN and Commvault.
• Provide training and support to end‑users, create database objects, and ensure efficient interaction with applications.
• Develop and enforce standards for naming, design, archiving and data security, including PII controls.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT or related field.
• Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or equivalent certification.
• At least five (5) years of experience administering Oracle, MS SQL and open‑source databases.
• Proven experience with high‑availability setups, backup/recovery, and cloud migrations.
