About the role
The DCC Architect will regulate and guide physical development within Tatu City, ensuring that all architectural and planning proposals comply with zoning, building codes and the city’s sustainable vision. This role combines design review, site inspection and stakeholder coordination to maintain high‑quality urban environments.
Key responsibilities
- Review architectural and development proposals for compliance with zoning, planning regulations, building codes, setbacks, parking, fire protection and ventilation standards.
- Participate in the formulation and revision of design guidelines and city master‑plans.
- Conduct site inspections during construction and prior to occupancy to confirm compliance.
- Prepare technical reports for developers and property owners to support statutory approvals.
- Engage internal teams, developers, consultants and regulators to process applications efficiently.
- Support DCC design reviews and provide architectural input for city projects.
- Manage escalations related to non‑compliance through structured documentation and stakeholder engagement.
- Evaluate unconventional or modern proposals for contextual fit within planning controls.
- Stay up‑to‑date with Kenyan building codes, urban design practices and green architecture trends.
- Lead and mentor junior team members and coordinate compliance efforts across departments.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Urban Design or a related field from a recognized institution.
- Registered Architect with BORAQS.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in architectural practice, design review or development regulation.
- Deep understanding of Kenyan building codes, zoning and planning regulations.
- Experience interpreting master‑plans, environmental impact assessments and mixed‑use development proposals.
- Strong knowledge of design parameters such as plot ratio, setbacks, GFA/GBA, site coverage and natural ventilation.
- Understanding of accessibility standards, fire safety integration and parking requirements across residential, commercial and industrial land uses.
