Director, Flying Eye Hospital

About the role

The Director of the Flying Eye Hospital (FEH) leads the operational delivery of all clinical training projects, Goodwill Tours, and special initiatives. Reporting to the Senior Director, FEH Strategy & Partnerships, the role translates board‑approved strategy into annual plans and ensures safe, efficient, high‑quality execution worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Provide executive leadership for FEH operations, overseeing clinical services, program management, aircraft readiness, and logistics.
• Translate the Board‑approved FEH strategy into actionable annual operating plans.
• Manage multidisciplinary teams including Clinical Services, Nursing, Program Management, Operations, Finance, Communications, and Aircraft Operations.
• Ensure compliance with Orbis policies, clinical standards, host‑country regulations, and civil aviation requirements.
• Oversee financial stewardship, resource allocation, and organizational performance metrics.
• Represent FEH as the senior operational liaison during project implementation and maintain relationships with partner hospitals, ministries of health, donors, and other external stakeholders.
• Travel internationally up to 70% of the time to support project delivery.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in senior operational leadership within healthcare or global health programs.
• Proven ability to manage large, multidisciplinary teams across multiple geographic locations.
• Strong understanding of clinical training, aviation logistics, and nonprofit financial management.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
• Willingness to travel internationally for the majority of the year.
