Director of People and Culture

About the role

The Director, People and Culture will lead Boma Project’s human‑resources function, shaping strategy and culture for a high‑impact poverty‑graduation programme in Africa. Reporting to the CEO, this senior leader will ensure that people practices support the organization’s mission to empower ultra‑poor women.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement job grading and evaluation frameworks (e.g., Hay, Mercer, Paterson) across multiple countries.
• Develop career pathing, succession planning, and capacity‑building programs for staff.
• Lead organizational safeguarding strategies, policies, and case‑management systems, especially in donor‑funded environments.
• Partner with the CEO and senior leadership to align people strategy with business development and growth objectives.
• Oversee recruitment, performance management, learning & development, and employee relations.

Required profile

• 10+ years of progressive HR experience, including end‑to‑end people and culture functions in a matrixed or multi‑country setting.
• Proven track record as a strategic HR partner to senior leadership, building or significantly strengthening a people function.
• Experience in NGOs, INGOs, or donor‑funded organisations, preferably in Africa.
• Bachelor’s degree plus a postgraduate HR diploma or CHRP/IHRM qualification; Master’s degree preferred.
