Director, Risk, Audit and Compliance

About the role

World Bicycle Relief is seeking a senior leader to head its global risk, audit and compliance function. Reporting to the Executive Director of Finance and Administration, the Director will provide independent assurance, risk insight and practical guidance to senior management and the Audit Committee across all operating countries and affiliated entities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and maintain the enterprise risk management framework, facilitating periodic risk assessments and risk register reviews.
• Identify, monitor and report emerging operational, financial, compliance, strategic, legal and reputational risks.
• Develop practical mitigation strategies and prepare risk reporting for executive leadership, country leadership and the Board.
• Design and execute a risk‑based internal audit plan covering World Bicycle Relief, Buffalo Bicycle country operations and affiliated fundraising organizations.
• Conduct operational, financial, compliance, governance and special audits, and assess the effectiveness of internal controls.
• Provide governance support, ensuring donor stewardship and regulatory compliance across all jurisdictions.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in risk management, internal audit, compliance or related governance functions, preferably in a multinational or non‑profit environment.
• Proven ability to work independently while collaborating with senior leaders and board members.
• Strong analytical and communication skills with a track record of delivering actionable insights.
