Effluent Treatment Plant Operator

About the role

Q-Sourcing, a manpower management solutions firm operating across East Africa, is recruiting on behalf of its client a competent, skilled and experienced Effluent Treatment Plant Operator to work in Nairobi, Kenya. The position is full time.

Key responsibilities

• Install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain plumbing and water treatment systems such as water softeners, filtration systems, pumps, pipes and fixtures.
• Operate and maintain wastewater treatment equipment including pumps, conveyors, blowers, chlorinators and vacuum filters.
• Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance, and monitor control panels to adjust valves and gates and regulate wastewater flow.
• Lubricate pumps and valves, repair equipment, skim grease, pump sludge and transfer sludge from sludge tanks to drying beds.
• Diagnose and resolve technical issues, track and document incidents and outages, and carry out root cause analysis.
• Clean equipment, dispose of waste byproducts, and provide technical support to customers, colleagues and other stakeholders.
• Maintain logs, records and reports, and perform other tasks as assigned.

Required profile

• At least 2 years' experience in a manufacturing company.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to collaborate in a team.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to deal professionally with customers and colleagues.
• Ability to respond quickly to emergencies and to prioritize, organize and coordinate the work of the unit.
• Ability to train and oversee the work of others.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, water treatment processes and equipment such as pumps, valves, filters and controls.
• Knowledge of wastewater testing methods, procedures and equipment, and of wastewater treatment techniques.
• Ability to operate and repair wastewater treatment plant equipment.
• Ability to take and record chemical tests, maintain records and prepare reports.
