Electrical Engineer Consultant – Solar Energy Assessment & Installation

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) seeks a qualified Electrical Engineer Consultant to support solar‑energy assessment and installation monitoring for its Kakuma office. The consultant will work under the guidance of IOM officials, collecting site data, preparing draft procurement documents, and reporting on installation progress.

Key responsibilities

• Review historical electricity‑consumption and cost data for the selected office areas.
• Conduct site visits, document existing conditions, and inventory equipment and electrical loads.
• Support basic load profiling and preliminary system‑sizing calculations using established tools and templates.
• Identify operational, logistical, environmental and site constraints.
• Compile market information on equipment, installation requirements and indicative costs to draft procurement documentation.
• Monitor contractor activities, maintain site records and provide regular progress reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Energy Technology or related field with at least three years of relevant experience, or a technical diploma with five years of experience.
• Practical experience in solar PV installation, maintenance, site assessment or technical support, including preparation of bills of quantities, cost estimates and equipment schedules.
• Familiarity with solar PV components, battery‑storage systems, load assessment and electrical‑safety practices, preferably in Kenya or a comparable East African context.
