About the role
The Elevator Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing mechanical and electrical systems of embassy elevators to ensure safety, certification, and continuous operation. Reporting to the Elevator Supervisor, the role combines hands‑on troubleshooting with preventive maintenance in a fast‑paced environment.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain a safe workplace and comply with all Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements.
- Diagnose and repair faults in brakes, motors, switches, and control systems using test lamps, ammeters, voltmeters, and other diagnostic tools.
- Disassemble defective units, replace or repair parts such as locks, gears, cables, and safety devices.
- Lubricate bearings and other components to reduce friction.
- Install or repair transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, conduit systems, and related transmission equipment.
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, layouts, and specifications to locate equipment issues.
- Perform preventive maintenance according to published schedules, operating procedures, and equipment warranties.
- Provide input for upgrading preventive‑maintenance tasks and frequencies.
- Conduct equipment tests using voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, continuity testers, feeler gauges, frequency counters, and other trade tools.
- Execute additional duties and projects as assigned.
Required profile
- High school diploma or GED; apprenticeship program with a Journeyman’s Certificate or equivalent field experience strongly preferred.
- Experience reading sketches, engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and manufacturers’ operation and maintenance manuals.
- Familiarity with US (and optionally European) Electrical Codes and accepted trade practices.
- Knowledge of annual maintenance requirements and load‑testing procedures for electrical and mechanical systems.
- Experience with Otis GEN2 MRL elevators is highly desirable.
- Previous work in overseas or harsh environmental conditions and experience with Amentum are a plus.
