Engineering Manager – Developer Experience

About the role

Wave is building the first cashless continent in Africa and needs a strong leader to own the Developer Experience team. As Engineering Manager – DevEx you will ensure that engineers have the tools, processes, and platform reliability needed to ship value quickly and safely across multiple countries.

Key responsibilities

• Prioritise the team’s work in collaboration with senior engineers, the Director of Platform, and engineering leadership.
• Support, mentor and develop teammates to become more effective engineers and collaborators.
• Treat the developer platform as an internal product: run surveys, measure adoption, and balance fast pipelines with compliance, security and incident‑prevention requirements.
• Drive the end‑to‑end development process, from code creation to safe production deployment across Wave’s multi‑country environment.
• Assess AI‑assisted development opportunities and introduce them only when they clearly reduce toil or improve quality.

• Experience leading engineering teams and mentoring engineers.
• Ability to collaborate with senior technical leaders and translate business needs into platform solutions.
