Entry‑Level Metallurgist – Government Mining Department

About the role

The State Department for Mining, under the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, is seeking entry‑level metallurgists to join its team. This is a training grade where you will work under the supervision of a senior officer, gaining hands‑on experience in metal processing and analysis.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure metal components meet engineering specifications such as tensile strength, hardness and toughness.
• Investigate root causes of metal failure, corrosion or fatigue in machinery and infrastructure.
• Monitor and improve extractive metallurgy processes (pyrometallurgy, hydrometallurgy) and heat‑treatment procedures.
• Prepare detailed reports on experimental results, material properties and recommendations for material selection.
• Mentor or supervise laboratory technicians and junior metallurgists.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining and Mineral Processing, Analytical Chemistry or Chemical Engineering from a recognised Kenyan university.
• Professional registration with a relevant engineering body (e.g., Engineers Registration Board).
• Entry‑level candidates with a willingness to learn and develop technical expertise.

Required skills

• Proficiency in computer‑aided design (CAD).
• Experience with metallurgical software and data analysis tools.

What we offer

• Basic salary scale Ksh 45,210 – Ksh 61,020 per month (CSG 10).
• House allowance Ksh 9,600 – Ksh 16,500 per month.
• Commuter allowance Ksh 5,000 per month.
• 30 working days of annual leave and government medical cover.
• Permanent, pensionable contract.
