Fairtrade & Farmer Development Manager

About the role

The Fairtrade & Farmer Development Manager will lead the growth and management of Mavuno Organics' Fairtrade avocado farmer network. This role combines farmer development with supply‑chain expansion, ensuring a reliable, certified source of export‑quality avocados.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and recruit avocado farmers into Mavuno's Fairtrade supply programme.
• Support the establishment and development of new legally recognised farmer organisations.
• Develop and execute annual farmer recruitment and Fairtrade supply‑expansion plans.
• Build relationships with large‑scale and commercial avocado growers for Fairtrade and organic programmes.
• Strengthen governance and institutional capacity of participating farmer organisations.
• Assist producer organisations in developing management, administration and record‑keeping systems.
• Build capacity of elected leaders and management committees in governance, accountability and Fairtrade requirements.
• Coordinate implementation and maintenance of Fairtrade and organic certification requirements.
• Prepare farmer groups for certification and surveillance audits.
• Ensure accurate farmer registers, farm records, traceability documentation and certification records.
• Identify compliance gaps and coordinate timely corrective actions.

Required profile

• Proven experience in farmer development and supply‑chain growth within horticultural or avocado sectors.
• Ability to work directly with cooperatives, CBOs, self‑help groups and individual growers.
• Strong knowledge of Fairtrade and organic certification requirements.
• Capacity to design and implement recruitment and expansion plans.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and capacity‑building skills.
