Financial Accountant

About the role

Kenya Airways is looking for a Financial Accountant to oversee the company's financial records and transactions, ensuring accurate and timely processing in the General Ledger. The role also covers the preparation of monthly, semi-annual and annual consolidated financial statements and coordination of general ledger closure.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure timely, complete and accurate processing of transactions in the ERP by reviewing and posting journal entries to the General Ledger.
• Coordinate general ledger closure so that the closing timetable is followed and sub-ledger modules are closed on time.
• Manage the Group's company General Ledgers and intercompany balance reconciliations.
• Prepare consolidated financial statements, supporting schedules, notes to the financial statements and disclosure checklists.
• Maintain and update the chart of accounts and perform GL reconciliations for assigned accounts.
• Review subsidiaries' financial reports before consolidation and prepare the Group Annual Report in line with IFRS, IAS and the Kenya Companies Act 2015.
• Handle internal and external audit requirements and liaise with external auditors.
• Develop, train, motivate and coach staff; prepare budget and strategy statements of financial position and cash flow.
• Stay up to date with IFRS, IAS and local regulatory changes.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or another business field from a recognised institution.
• Full ACCA or CPA qualification.
• At least five years of experience in general ledger or financial accounting, preferably in the airline industry, a listed entity or a Big Four firm.
• Demonstrable experience preparing consolidated financial statements under IFRS.

Required skills

• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations.
• Proficiency in relevant accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
• Analytical, detail-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
