Forestry Extension Officer

About the role

Q-Sourcing Limited trading as Q-Sourcing Servtec is a manpower management solutions firm operating in the East African region (Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and South Sudan). It is looking for competent, skilled and experienced forestry extension officers to work in Eldoret and its environs to support its client in the establishment and management of small, medium and large-scale forests.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate with the forester and the client team on planning.
• Participate in recruitment of casual employees and supervise them for forest establishment and management.
• Supervise execution of the work plan in the designated extension area as agreed with the forester.
• Train casual employees on standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Ensure forest establishment services meet the client's standards per plot.
• Ensure timely supply of tools and equipment, and their collection and safe storage after work.
• Keep accurate attendance data and enter data accurately and on time.
• Prepare daily, weekly and periodic reports and keep operations within budget.
• Take part in client meetings and activities as requested, and follow safety protocols.
• Communicate proactively with management and the client about challenges and mitigation measures.

Required profile

• Minimum certificate in Forestry or Agroforestry.
• Valid motorbike riding licence.
• 2-3 years' experience managing tree plantations on farmer fields.
• Good knowledge of safety and risk management.

Required skills

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Planning and organisational skills.
• Computer literate with good knowledge of digital platforms.
• Data analysis and report writing skills.
