Fractional Senior People Advisor

About the role

Educate! is looking for a Fractional Senior People Advisor to partner with its CEO and executive team as a senior people advisor. The company has grown to 300+ staff across Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya and Tanzania, and the role focuses on managing growth across countries, applying policy and employment law, and communicating clearly with people. It is a senior, part-time advisory engagement of about 10-12 hours per week, fully remote, and does not run the people function.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with the executive team on people decisions and act as a senior people business partner to the CEO.
• Bring an independent view on org design, team composition and succession as the company scales.
• Pressure-test decisions and name the risks others miss.
• Apply policy and employment law to give the best outcome for the business and its people, translating global policy and local laws into practical options.
• Advise on live cases such as restructures, exits, performance situations, grievances and investigations.
• Coach individuals through the cross-cultural dynamics of a matrixed, multi-country organisation and facilitate sessions when the team is stuck.
• Shape the messaging behind restructures, policy changes and leadership transitions, and edit internal communications so they are clear, honest and consistent.

Required profile

• 8+ years in senior HR, people or organisational development roles, including as a startup people leader, HR business partner or CEO advisor.
• Strong writing, able to turn difficult people decisions into communication people accept.
• Comfortable being the outside voice: direct with top leaders, discreet about what is heard, and not tied to execution.
• Fits the company's culture tenets: ambitious, youth-first, impact-obsessed, always learning, one team with many views, and a startup mindset.
