Gender, Diversity and Inclusion Specialist

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Gender, Diversity and Inclusion Specialist to support the Quality Assurance Section of its Policy and Programme Division in Nairobi. The consultant will help mainstream gender equality, disability inclusion, youth and poverty eradication across UNEP projects.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver high‑quality training and capacity‑building workshops on cross‑cutting gender, disability, youth and poverty issues.
• Conduct timely reviews and clearances of gender equality, disability inclusion, youth and poverty eradication components in concept notes, project documents and programme submissions.
• Develop guidance notes, standard operating procedures, tools and training materials to strengthen institutional implementation and reporting.
• Collect and analyse disaggregated data, contribute to UNEP and UN reports, and extract relevant data from IPMR for Quality Assurance analysis.
• Support the revision of technical notes under the UNDIS accountability framework and contribute to advocacy activities.

Required profile

• Proven experience in gender equality, disability inclusion, youth and poverty eradication within UN or international development contexts.
• Demonstrated ability to design and facilitate training workshops and capacity‑building sessions.
• Experience in reviewing project documents for cross‑cutting issues and producing guidance materials.
• Strong analytical skills for data collection, disaggregation and reporting.
