General Manager, Mountain Region

About the role

The General Manager, Mountain Region (Regional Business Lead) drives the commercial performance and long-term growth of Safaricom's business in the assigned region. The role develops and executes localized strategies and business plans aligned with organizational objectives, delivering revenue targets, market share growth and subscriber performance metrics such as gross additions, churn reduction and net adds. It covers a portfolio spanning sales, marketing, emerging markets, financial services, fixed business, technology and human resources, and is based in Nairobi.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a localized regional strategy, translate national targets into regional plans and drive 4G+ penetration in trade
• Lead regional business planning, set and cascade performance targets, run regular business reviews and hold teams accountable for KPIs
• Build joint business plans with partners, onboard new strategic partners and manage partner performance and escalations
• Expand and optimize the distribution infrastructure, improve product availability, monitor stock levels and reduce stock-outs
• Embed a route-to-customer model, digital-first last-mile delivery, digital sales tools and retail as experiential centres
• Deliver sales and revenue targets, grow merchants and fixed customers, reduce churn and drive net subscriber growth
• Strengthen market share through competitor analysis and differentiated offerings
• Run localized marketing and promotional campaigns, support product launches and align them with sales objectives
• Provide cross-functional leadership across sales, marketing, HR and operations, and ensure a strong safety culture and risk, governance and control ownership

Required profile

• Business or Marketing degree (MBA preferred)
• 8-12 years of commercial experience with multi-territory leadership
