Ground Cargo Handler / MHE Operator

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Ground Cargo Handler / MHE Operator to support a U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves safe operation of powered industrial trucks and material handling equipment, including handling hazardous materials in compliance with regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Operate PITs and other MHE to transport, load, and unload cargo safely, following training and safety regulations.
• Handle hazardous materials (HAZMAT) with proper containment, labeling, and transport per DOT 49 CFR regulations.
• Conduct routine equipment inspections, maintenance checks, and report any mechanical issues.
• Maintain accurate records of equipment use, cargo movements, and hazardous material transport.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of PIT/MHE operating experience.
• Valid government‑issued license for the vehicle class operated, with a HAZMAT endorsement.
• Possession of a valid passport (minimum 1‑year validity) and ability to obtain required visas.
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements and comply with safety and security standards.

Required skills

• Operation of powered industrial trucks (PIT) and material handling equipment (MHE) in accordance with 49 CFR 1910.178 and DoD 4140.1‑R.
• Hazardous material handling certification and endorsement.
• Knowledge of safety rules, load handling techniques, and equipment inspection procedures.
