Grounds Laborer

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Grounds Laborer to support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The role involves routine maintenance and landscaping tasks to keep operational areas, stormwater drainage systems, and landscaped spaces neat, safe, and compliant with standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, mulching, weeding, raking, planting, fertilizing, and watering of grounds and landscaped areas.
• Maintain and clean stormwater drainage systems, removing debris and blockages.
• Operate and service groundskeeping equipment such as lawn mowers, weed trimmers, brush cutters, and blowers.
• Collect and dispose of leaves, grass clippings, trash, and other debris from all outdoor areas.
• Install, water, fertilize, prune, and protect plants, trees, and shrubs.
• Maintain artificial turf by removing vegetation, cleaning spills, and removing bird droppings.
• Assist with irrigation system repairs and ensure proper water distribution.
• Report equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, and maintenance issues to the supervisor.
• Support storm cleanup and drainage maintenance during inclement weather.

Required profile

• Ability to follow established safety protocols and consistently use personal protective equipment.
• Physical stamina to perform manual labor outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Team‑oriented attitude with reliable communication to supervisors and crew members.
• Proactive reporting of hazards and commitment to a zero‑injury environment.
