Head of Artificial Intelligence

About the role

The Head of Artificial Intelligence will define and execute the bank’s AI vision, driving innovation across credit, fraud, collections, customer service and technology. This senior, on‑site role reports to senior management and is based in Nairobi.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a multi‑year AI strategy aligned with corporate goals.
• Identify, prioritize and deliver high‑impact AI use cases across business units.
• Lead cross‑functional AI teams from ideation through production deployment and benefits realization.
• Define enterprise AI architecture, MLOps standards, monitoring, reusable services and cost optimisation.
• Establish AI governance frameworks that ensure security, fairness, transparency and regulatory compliance.
• Partner with business leaders to embed AI into processes, drive adoption and track performance.
• Collaborate with Data & Analytics to ensure trusted, governed data foundations.
• Build a high‑performing AI Centre of Excellence, attract talent and promote AI literacy.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s (required) and Master’s (preferred) in Computer Science, Data Science, AI, Statistics, Engineering, Mathematics or related fields.
• 10+ years in technology, data, analytics or digital transformation; 5‑7 years in senior leadership overseeing enterprise‑scale AI.
• Proven track record delivering large‑scale AI/ML programmes with measurable business impact.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams of data scientists, engineers, architects and business stakeholders.
• Background in banking, financial services, fintech or other highly regulated industries.
