Head of Data & Analytics

About the role

Jacaranda Health, a Kenyan-founded public health organisation working with governments to improve maternal and newborn health outcomes, is seeking a Head of Data & Analytics in Nairobi. The role leads the data, analytics and monitoring and evaluation functions, reporting to the Director of Research, Design & Evaluation. It develops the long-term data and analytics strategy, oversees analytics infrastructure and M&E frameworks, and builds a high-performing team that supports evidence-based decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Data & Analytics Strategy: develop and deliver a 3-5 year strategy and roadmap for evidence generation and programme effectiveness, partnering with Product, Technology, Research and Programme teams.
• Drive insight generation: apply advanced statistical methods to assess programme performance and health outcomes, and support research design, implementation research and complex evaluations including randomised controlled trials.
• Strengthen data systems and governance: oversee data collection, quality assurance, governance and data architecture, ensuring alignment with ethical and regulatory standards.
• Champion data communication: improve data literacy, translate analyses into clear insights for staff, donors and government stakeholders, and oversee dashboards, reporting and knowledge sharing.
• Support product development and innovation, including emerging areas such as machine learning and AI-enabled health solutions.
• Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary Data & Analytics and M&E team, manage the unit's budget and provide oversight of data assets across programmes and geographies.

Required profile

• Master's degree in data science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems or similar.
• At least 7 years of directly related experience, including 3 years in a managerial position leading and mentoring data teams.
• Significant autonomy in setting data priorities and approving data products, accountable for data quality, integrity, security and ethical use.
