HR Manager – Supermarkets

About the role

The HR Manager will lead the people strategy for all supermarkets in the region, ensuring attraction, development, engagement and retention of talent while fostering a high‑performance culture. You will partner with business leaders to drive workforce effectiveness, employee experience and compliance with Kenyan labour laws.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with branch and business leadership to translate objectives into people strategies that improve operational effectiveness and productivity.
• Lead workforce planning, manpower optimisation and deployment across branches, maintaining appropriate staffing levels.
• Provide strategic guidance on employee relations, disciplinary and grievance matters in line with Kenyan legislation.
• Drive the performance management cycle, supporting objective setting, reviews and accountability.
• Develop and implement initiatives to strengthen employee engagement, culture and retention using people insights.
• Support people leadership, succession readiness and building high‑performing teams.
• Partner on organisational changes, new store openings and transformation initiatives to ensure effective people transition.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or related field.
• Professional HR qualification (CHRP‑K, SHRM‑CP, SHRM‑SCP or equivalent); membership of a recognised HR body is a plus.
• 10‑15 years progressive HR experience, preferably in large, multi‑site retail, FMCG or hospitality environments.
• Strong experience in employee relations, performance management, labour compliance and workforce productivity.
