About the role
The ICT & Database Intern will provide first‑line ICT support and assist with routine database, Microsoft 365, information security, asset management, documentation and digital workplace activities. This internship offers practical learning experience while contributing to reliable day‑to‑day ICT service delivery across UAF‑Africa’s virtual working environment.
Key responsibilities
- Respond to first‑line user support requests, perform password resets, troubleshoot access issues and log tickets in the helpdesk system.
- Assist with set‑up, configuration and routine maintenance of laptops, mobile phones, printers and other ICT equipment.
- Support users with Microsoft 365 applications (Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Forms) and handle basic account administration.
- Enter, validate and clean data in organisational databases, prepare reports, dashboards and data extracts.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of ICT assets, verify issuance and returns, and coordinate minor equipment maintenance.
- Monitor antivirus and endpoint protection status, promote cybersecurity awareness and report any incidents.
- Document service records, draft user guides, update SOPs and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Required profile
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Software Engineering or a related field.
- At least one year of relevant experience or introductory training/certification in Microsoft 365, databases, networking or cybersecurity.
- Basic understanding of Windows and macOS environments and familiarity with Microsoft 365 applications.
- Awareness of cybersecurity, data‑protection principles and willingness to learn approved AI‑assisted productivity tools.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and ability to work independently in a virtual, multicultural setting.
