ICT Trainee

About the role

Career Directions Limited is looking for a motivated ICT Trainee to join its ICT team in Nairobi and gain hands-on experience in technology support, networking, systems administration and basic software development. The trainee works closely with the ICT Manager and the team to support day-to-day technology operations, troubleshoot issues, maintain ICT infrastructure and contribute to technology projects.

Key responsibilities

• Provide first-level technical support for hardware, software and connectivity, and assist with software installation, configuration and user account setup
• Monitor and maintain the network, help configure routers, switches and access points, and apply basic networking concepts such as IP addressing, DNS, DHCP and LAN/WAN
• Assist in developing, testing and maintaining basic internal software, and support scripting, database and web development tasks
• Help with system updates, backups, maintenance, licensing, asset records and basic cybersecurity controls
• Log technical issues, maintain ICT records, prepare reports and develop basic user guides
• Take part in ICT training, knowledge sharing and projects assigned by the ICT Manager

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, ICT, Software Engineering or a related field
• Strong interest in technology and willingness to learn
• Good analytical, problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with a team

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, networking and IT troubleshooting
• Basic software development skills; knowledge of Python, JavaScript, PHP, Java or C# is an added advantage
• Basic understanding of networking concepts (IP addressing, DNS, DHCP, LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, routers, switches)
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office and common business applications
• Basic knowledge of databases, web technologies or scripting is an added advantage
