About the role
The Interpreter Apprentice will deliver professional sign‑language interpreting via video for a video relay service, working under the supervision of the Team Manager. This paid apprenticeship combines on‑the‑job interpreting with structured training.
Key responsibilities
- Provide accurate video relay interpreting for Deaf consumers, ensuring compliance with FCC regulations and the NAD‑RID Code of Professional Conduct.
- Maintain punctuality, preparedness, and professional conduct during shifts, including accurate record‑keeping.
- Adapt quickly to new video‑based technologies and multitask between interpreting and platform operation.
- Participate in company‑sponsored training and professional development activities.
Required profile
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English.
- Strong understanding of Deaf culture and adherence to the NAD‑RID Code of Professional Conduct.
- At least 18 years of age; three to five years of interpreting experience preferred but not required.
Required skills
- ASL fluency.
- Use of Video Relay Service (VRS) technology.
