Junior Electrical Design Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Junior Electrical Design Engineer to join a leading renewable energy consulting firm in Nairobi. You will contribute to the design and engineering of inverter stations, medium‑voltage transformer and switching stations, and utility metering systems for utility‑scale solar projects.

Key responsibilities

• Design and engineer inverter stations, MV transformer stations, MV switching stations, and utility metering systems.
• Interpret specifications and drawings to create cable, equipment, lighting, earthing, and lightning layouts in CAD.
• Size cable trays, trenches, and design cable routing and underground raceways.
• Prepare single‑line diagrams, layouts for Main Control Rooms and Inverter Stations, and perform cable sizing calculations.
• Add new features to AutoCAD applications using plugins and ensure compliance with national and international codes.
• Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and clients, and stay updated on new product technologies.
• Develop and implement system processes and standard operating procedures.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
• 1‑3 years of experience in Solar PV design, substation engineering, or power system studies.
• Strong proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Knowledge of DC & AC engineering specifications and standards (IEC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, SEC, IS).
• Experience in consultancy/EPC environments for utility‑scale solar projects is desirable.
• Ability to prepare technical reports, documentation, and checklists.
• Willingness to travel for site visits domestically and internationally.
