Laboratory Technician

About the role

The Mawego Technical Training Institute seeks a motivated Laboratory Technician to support practical science sessions and maintain a safe, efficient laboratory environment for students and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Catalogue recordings and provide them on request.
• Coordinate laboratory activities to optimise equipment utilisation.
• Ensure strict adherence to health and safety procedures.
• Clean equipment and store chemicals, drugs and other materials safely.
• Maintain and repair laboratory apparatus.
• Prepare equipment and chemicals for practical lessons.
• Keep accurate records of student practical sessions, methods and results.
• Run trial experiments before classes and demonstrate techniques.
• Support academic staff during laboratory sessions and offer technical advice.
• Liaise with staff to plan timetables, equipment needs and work plans.

Required profile

• Diploma in Science Laboratory Technology.
• Minimum three years of experience working in a science laboratory.
• Registration with relevant professional bodies.
• Knowledge of quality‑assurance and accreditation requirements.
• Strong communication, teamwork and integrity.
