Lecturer (Population Health) - Grade 12

About the role

Mama Ngina University College, a constituent college of Kenyatta University, is recruiting a Lecturer (Population Health) at Grade 12 in the Department of Nursing & Clinical Studies. This is the entry grade for PhD holders in the cadre, working under the direct supervision of a senior officer.

Key responsibilities

• Lecture in the area of specialization according to the syllabus
• Coordinate course projects and practical work
• Prepare teaching and learning materials
• Set, invigilate and mark examinations and assignments
• Carry out research in a relevant field or specialization
• Prepare student progress reports and develop research funding proposals
• Write journal articles and books, and present papers at conferences and seminars
• Develop and review academic programmes and curricula
• Supervise tutorial and junior research fellows and students
• Undertake consultancies with local and international organisations and build collaborative networks for resource mobilisation
• Present research findings at international conferences and engage with stakeholders for community benefit
• Manage budgets for student field trips and research, and provide departmental leadership where appropriate

Required profile

• Earned PhD or equivalent doctorate in Population Health, Public Health, Public Reproductive Health, Epidemiology & Disease Control, Monitoring & Evaluation, Community Health, Occupational Health & Safety or its equivalent
• Master's degree in the same fields or its equivalent
• Bachelor's degree in Population Health
• At least three years of university-level teaching experience or research/industry experience
• Minimum 24 publication points, at least 16 from refereed journals
• Evidence of attendance and contribution to conferences, seminars or workshops
• Current registration with relevant professional bodies and membership in a professional association is an added advantage

Required skills

• Proficiency in computer applications
• Research and writing of academic papers and journal articles
