Maintenance Intern

About the role

Synnefa Green Limited is a Nairobi-based agri-tech company that makes farming simpler through smart solar dryers, smart greenhouses, FarmShield IoT sensors and its FarmCloud platform. It is looking for a Maintenance Intern to join its Technology Development and Innovation team and work with its Field Engineers. The intern supports installations, routine maintenance and site visits, and keeps the logs and trackers that the service commitments depend on, so engineers can focus on complex troubleshooting. The role splits time between the office and the field.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with field installations, routine maintenance, inspections and commissioning under supervision
• Support site surveys and complete pre-site forms, checklists and installation readiness records
• Maintain maintenance logs, fault registers, SLA trackers, installation records and service reports
• Collect and organise field readings and operational data, and use Excel to update trackers and prepare basic summaries
• Support troubleshooting by gathering fault information, carrying out approved basic checks and escalating issues promptly

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related technical discipline
• Entry level (0-1 year); hands-on project experience is an advantage
• Valid driving licence
• Willingness to travel to field sites and work outdoors
• Practical, organised, with attention to detail and a safety-first approach
• Reliable completion of routine assignments with minimal supervision, and escalation of issues beyond one's competence
• Interest in solar or renewable energy, agri-tech, IoT, electrical installations or equipment maintenance is an advantage
