Marine Engine Mechanic

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Marine Engine Mechanic to support a U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves inspection, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of marine propulsion systems and related equipment for U.S. Government operations.

Key responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, repair, overhaul, and preservation of gasoline and diesel marine engines, including outboard engines 25 hp and above.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair propulsion, hydraulic, pneumatic, cargo pumps, valves, air compressors, welding equipment, and other marine mechanical components.
• Utilize manual and computerized diagnostic tools, interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints, and maintain accurate maintenance records.
• Ensure compliance with U.S. Coast Guard, OSHA, CFR, hazardous material, host‑nation regulations and Amentum safety, quality, and environmental procedures.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent with at least five years of experience as a Marine Engine Mechanic or Industrial Mechanic specializing in marine propulsion.
• Technical certification from an accredited mechanical or marine trade school.
• Valid passport (minimum one‑year validity) and ability to obtain required visas and facility credentials.
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements and work in a remote overseas environment.

Required skills

• Knowledge of gasoline and diesel internal combustion engines (two‑stroke and four‑stroke).
• Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, mechanical power transmission, and welding.
• Proficiency in reading technical manuals, engineering drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Use of diagnostic equipment and hand/power tools for mechanical, electrical, ignition, lighting, and fuel‑injection repairs.
