Marine Machinist

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Marine Machinist to support a U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves precision machining, mechanical repairs, installation, and maintenance of marine machinery and equipment to ensure vessel readiness.

Key responsibilities

• Operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other precision equipment.
• Machine, fabricate, repair, and modify parts for marine systems and equipment.
• Perform alignment, installation, repair, and maintenance of pumps, valves, engines, gear mechanisms, and hydraulic systems.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and equipment manuals.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical issues on marine vessels and equipment.
• Use precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges) to verify component specifications.
• Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance to reduce downtime.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used, and maintenance activities.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1-3 years experience as a Marine Machinist or related mechanical trade.
• Valid passport with at least one year validity and ability to obtain required visas.
• Ability to meet contract medical and security requirements.

Required skills

• Operation of lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other precision machine tools.
• Reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
• Precision measurement using micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
• Diagnosing and repairing marine mechanical systems.
