Mechanical Maintenance Officer (Fixed-Term)

About the role

Tupande, the Kenya programme of One Acre Fund, is looking for a Mechanical Maintenance Officer for a fixed-term position of 3 months in Rukanga. The officer carries out hands-on mechanical maintenance on production lines under the direction of the Production Coordinators and Production Supervisors.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor the assigned pyrolysis line throughout the shift for signs of mechanical faults, unusual sounds or abnormal conditions
• Respond immediately to equipment breakdowns: diagnose the fault, repair it and restore production as quickly as possible
• Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance tasks during the shift as directed by the Production Coordinators
• Clean the production line thoroughly, including unclogging blockages, at every equipment stoppage to maximise uptime on restart
• Take part in planned maintenance windows and record faults, repairs, parts used and time-to-repair in the maintenance log
• Communicate open or ongoing maintenance issues clearly during shift handover
• Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) and electrical safety procedures strictly, and notify coordinators of recurring faults, parts shortages or maintenance risks

Required profile

• Certificate or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or an equivalent trade qualification
• At least 2 years of hands-on maintenance experience in an industrial, manufacturing or processing environment
• Willingness and ability to work rotating 9-hour shifts, including night shifts
• Physically able to work in a hot, dusty industrial environment throughout the shift
• Open to starting as soon as possible; the role is open only to Kenyan citizens or permanent residents

Required skills

• Mechanical fault diagnosis; electrical fault diagnosis preferred
• Familiarity with LOTO procedures and electrical safety standards
• Experience with high-temperature processing equipment, conveyors, combustion systems or biomass machinery is a strong advantage
