Mechanical Project Engineer

About the role

The Mechanical Project Engineer will lead the design and delivery of mechanical services for building projects, from concept through construction. This role involves coordinating multidisciplinary teams, ensuring compliance with standards, and acting as the primary mechanical contact on site.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design from concept, preparing Concept Design Reports and Basis of Design documents.
• Develop schematic and detailed designs, calculations, specifications, and schedules for HVAC, plumbing, drainage, fire protection, LPG and related systems.
• Ensure designs meet BS/EN, NFPA, ASHRAE, and Kenyan Building Code requirements.
• Support tender preparation, respond to technical queries and assist in tender evaluations.
• Coordinate mechanical designs with architectural, structural, electrical and specialist disciplines.
• Oversee mechanical services delivery on site, verify installations, conduct inspections and issue reports.
• Review contractor shop drawings, material submissions, method statements and RFIs.
• Implement QA/QC procedures, witness testing and commissioning, and manage hand‑over documentation.
• Assist with commercial reporting, contractor valuations, variations and progress updates.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering.
• Registered with the Engineer’s Board of Kenya.
• Minimum three years of experience in building services engineering, preferably in an MEP consultancy.
• Strong knowledge of relevant standards (BS/EN, NFPA, ASHRAE, Kenyan Building Code).
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
