Mechanical Technician – Maintenance & Workshop

About the role

The Mechanical Technician will ensure that all workshop equipment, tools and facilities at Rift Valley Technical Training Institute are maintained in optimal condition, supporting the institute’s practical training programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain an up‑to‑date inventory of tools and equipment.
• Perform routine and corrective maintenance on workshop machinery, milling and lathe machines (conventional and CNC), and other institute facilities.
• Keep the workstation clean, organized and safely laid out.
• Issue and receive tools and equipment to trainers and trainees, tracking usage.
• Report delays, problems, material or equipment needs, and progress on practical requisitions to section heads.
• Prepare and assemble practical training materials.
• Ensure workshop safety, supervise trainees and any attached personnel, and enforce safety measures.
• Carry out additional maintenance tasks across the institute as required.

Required profile

• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum three years of experience with a reputable institution.
• Proficiency with milling and lathe machines, both conventional and CNC.
• Certificate in welding and fabrication (preferred).
• Registration with the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK).
• Computer literate.
• Age above 25 years.
