Mechanisation Specialist – Kilgoris

About the role

The Mechanisation Specialist will support farm operations in Kilgoris by ensuring that all mechanised activities meet technical standards and deliver optimal performance. This role combines hands‑on equipment work with digital record‑keeping and training responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, calibrate and maintain farm machinery for tillage, seeding/planting, spraying and spreading.
• Inspect equipment, perform routine troubleshooting and ensure compliance with operational standards (depth, speed, spacing, ridge geometry, etc.).
• Document inspections, calibrations and maintenance activities in the farm management system and ERP.
• Develop and update SOPs, checklists and training materials for machinery use.
• Utilise digital tools such as Excel, Slack, drones, GPS/RTK and precision‑ag platforms to support field operations.

Required profile

• Degree or Diploma in Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Mechanisation, Farm Power & Machinery, Mechanical Engineering (agricultural focus) or a related field.
• Practical experience with farm‑machinery operations, specifications, calibration and maintenance, preferably in a commercial or contracted mechanisation setting.
• Familiarity with Kenyan service providers and typical field conditions is an advantage.

Required skills

• Farm machinery operation and calibration.

• Use of farm management systems and ERP modules (equipment master, inspection, WCC).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Slack and digital checklists.
• Drone operation, precision‑ag technologies and GPS/RTK positioning.
• Writing SOPs, checklists and training documentation.
• Knowledge of chemical safe‑use and KCAA drone compliance.
