About the role
The Specialist – Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting & Learning (MERL) will support the Lead – Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting & Learning in implementing and continuously improving MERL systems across the Safaricom and M‑PESA Foundations’ programme portfolio. The role provides technical expertise in performance measurement, data management, reporting, research and impact assessment to ensure programmes are evidence‑based, results‑oriented and accountable.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement MERL frameworks and coordinate programme performance tracking against agreed indicators and results frameworks.
- Support data collection, validation, cleaning, analysis and reporting, maintaining programme databases and management information systems.
- Prepare donor, management, board and stakeholder reports, ensuring compliance with reporting timelines and requirements.
- Facilitate learning reviews, document lessons learned, and coordinate research studies, assessments and impact evaluations.
- Provide technical support and capacity‑building to programme teams and implementing partners on MERL tools, methodologies and digital platforms.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Monitoring & Evaluation, Statistics, Economics, Data Science, Development Studies, Public Health, Social Sciences or a related field.
- 4‑6 years of relevant experience in MERL within development, philanthropy, sustainability, health, education or humanitarian programmes.
- Demonstrated experience in quantitative and qualitative data analysis, programme performance measurement and impact assessment.
- Strong report writing, analytical, presentation and communication skills.
Required skills
- Proficiency with statistical software (e.g., SPSS, Stata, R).
- Experience using data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
- Quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
- Database management and reporting automation.
