National Qualitative Research Consultant (10‑month contract)

About the role

UNICEF Kenya is seeking a qualified consultant to co‑lead a long‑term qualitative study on the Cash Transfer for Orphan and Vulnerable Children (CT‑OVC) programme. The consultant will focus on Life Histories and Key Informant Interviews, working closely with the QUIP specialist and local data collection team.

Key responsibilities

• Review programme documents and literature; design and finalize study protocols and interview guides.
• Coordinate ethical review processes and train the local data collection team.
• Supervise field data collection for Life Histories and KIIs, including on‑site presence and remote monitoring.
• Code, analyse and triangulate qualitative data; draft report sections and contribute to overall report writing.
• Present findings at validation workshops, prepare policy briefs, presentations and co‑author a journal manuscript.

Required profile

• Experience in qualitative research, particularly Life Histories and Key Informant Interviews.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with international and local partners.
• Strong analytical and report‑writing skills.

Required skills

• Qualitative data collection and transcription monitoring.
• Qualitative coding and analysis (e.g., thematic analysis).
• Report drafting and presentation preparation.
