Oncology Nurse

About the role

The Oncology Nurse will provide specialized nursing care to patients undergoing cancer treatment at Sanitas Family Hospital in Meru County, Kenya. This contract role involves assessing patients, administering chemotherapy and other treatments, monitoring for side effects, and ensuring safe handling of oncology medications.

Key responsibilities

• Assess patients and administer chemotherapy and other oncology treatments safely.
• Monitor patients for adverse reactions and manage side effects.
• Educate patients and families about treatment plans, symptom management and supportive care.
• Collaborate closely with oncologists and multidisciplinary team members.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and adhere to infection‑prevention and safety protocols.
• Coordinate appointments, follow‑up care and support patients’ physical and emotional well‑being.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse qualification with current licensure in Kenya or eligibility for registration.
• Post‑basic training or certification in oncology nursing (highly preferred).
• Experience in a hospital or acute‑care setting, ideally in an oncology or medical‑surgical unit.
• Strong communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills to support patients and families compassionately.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced clinical environment, maintain accurate documentation and follow clinical guidelines.
