Operational Risk Advisor

About the role

The Operational Risk Advisor supports the Head of Operational and Resilience Risk in delivering Absa’s operational risk strategy across Kenya. The role provides specialist advice, embeds a risk‑aware culture, and ensures the implementation of risk frameworks, tools and reporting in line with group policies.

Key responsibilities

• Provide operational risk advisory services to business units, educating line management on risk assessment tools and best practices.
• Embed ownership of operational risk management by delivering advice, training and guidance on event reporting and loss mitigation.
• Coordinate and monitor operational risk activities, prepare regular reports for senior risk forums and contribute to budgeting and cost management.
• Analyse risk trends using the Operational Risk Management System (ORMS) and support the development of mitigation action plans.
• Represent the Head of Operational and Resilience Risk in executive meetings and regulatory consultations as required.

Required profile

• Graduate degree with a certification in risk management.
• Minimum two years of experience in operational and resilience risk management within the banking sector.
• Proven experience in control and governance, fraud prevention and performance management.
• Strong understanding of Absa’s operational and resilience risk policies and banking products and processes.
