Operations Accountant

About the role

The Operations Accountant will manage financial data for Penda Health’s medical centres, ensuring accurate records, reconciliations, reporting and compliance with internal policies. Reporting to the Lead Operations Accountant, the role works closely with branch managers and requires independent professional judgment on revenue and cash handling.

Key responsibilities

• Upload weekly insurance revenue and monthly cash revenue into the financial system and perform daily reconciliations of M-Pesa, debit‑card and cash collections.
• Investigate and resolve discrepancies, review drafts and voids, and ensure timely bank deposits and treasury reconciliation.
• Prepare monthly revenue analysis, variance reports and supporting schedules for senior review.
• Manage petty‑cash claims, post transactions, perform weekly reconciliations and flag any policy breaches or suspected fraud.
• Support continuous improvement of financial controls, identify weaknesses and assist with internal and external audits.
• Monitor inventory and fixed‑asset records, reconcile them with physical counts and contribute to month‑end close activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field.
• ACCA or CPA qualification with at least three years of accounting experience, preferably in a branch or healthcare setting.
• Proven experience in financial reporting, cost management, revenue reconciliation and petty‑cash administration.
• Strong understanding of P&L reporting, financial regulations and internal controls.

Required skills

• Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero or SAP (or similar ERP systems).
• Ability to perform detailed reconciliations and variance analysis.
